Frequently Asked Questions
Answering Your Questions
How do outdoor wood boiler systems work?
Essentially, water is heated within the outdoor boiler and then circulated through insulated underground pipes into the home. A heat exchanger then transfers heat to a furnace, a hot water tank or in-floor radiant heating system.
How easy would it be to replace our current heating system with a boiler system?
You don't need to replace what you already have - you can supplement it. If you heat with oil, propane/natural gas or electric, an outdoor wood boiler can work in conjunction with that. We can design a system that would work for you.
Do you need electricity to run a boiler?
Yes, you do need electricity to run an outdoor wood boiler. In the event of a power outage, a generator can be used to operate the boiler easily.
Can outdoor wood boilers be used to heat more than one building?
Definitely! Depending on the size of the boiler, you can heat your home, your workshop, your pool and hot tub, or several small homes.
We have a waterfront property with a high water table. Would a boiler system work for us?
If you are able to have working indoor plumbing, it definitely would work for you. Water table is of no concern.
Do I need an additive in the water for the furnace?
You do need to add a boiler conditioner to the water to adjust the Ph level to stop corrosion in the water reservoir.
Can I burn garbage?
No. You also cannot burn treated wood or plywood in outdoor wood boilers.
What happens if the fire goes out due to low fuel?
Add your preferred dry kindling and a few pieces of dry fuel wood and re-light.
Can I place the outdoor boiler anywhere I want?
Typically 30-50 feet away from buildings is recommended, but check with your insurance company for proximity to existing building allowance. Other things you might want to consider are ease of access and prevailing wind direction.
Do you offer leasing or financing options?
No, at this time we do not offer leasing or financing options for our outdoor wood boilers.
